The Fab Lab House Project – innovative solar powered house

Selected by the IAAC (Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia) as their official entry into the European competition of mid-Solar decathlon in Madrid in 2010, the Solar Fab Lab House went on to win the People’s First Choice Award.

An innovative and climate passive home, The Solar FabLab house utilizes the resources of its surrounding environment. The energy from the sun, water and wind are drawn from to create a climate which totally optimizes the conditions of habitability. The rounded shape of the structure is positioned for better suitable solar tracking and incorporates Smart systems which help monitor the temperature of the interior and how much energy the home is using.

The exterior is coated with a custom made photovoltaic skin, which also acts as a facility to collect rainwater. Inside, the home includes an integrated living space with connected bedroom, kitchen, a bathroom and an elevated guest room for guests to stay in.

Eco-friendly home designs such as the Fab Lab House not only set a good examples to other designers, but set the benchmark on what can be achieve with stylish energy-efficient homes.
