Living Tomorrow – our homes of the future

Bringing together contemporary interior product designers with high-tech companies, Living Tomorrow, a company from Belgium, show how life could be more comfortable and more energy efficient with their prototype ‘Houses of Tomorrow’.

Designed for an age when the Earth’s fossil fuels would have run out, the house is totally run on two hydrogen fuel cells. Wall and floor heating will replace traditional radiators. A wellness cocoon is a retreat place for individuals where they have a comfortable pod equipped with video games and internet, with constant supply of clean oxygen.

Part of Living Tomorrow’s ethic is to enhance the standard of living for the elderly and disabled. Features such as lasers which can detect a burning saucepan, and sensors which detect unusual activity like people falling and raise the alarm, make the home a safe environment. A clever toothbrush which when put in the mouth can take your temperature and display the reading on the mirror in front of you, as well as remind you to take your medicine. It will also take your blood pressure and send it to your doctor.

Other features in the future homes include:

Showering in an automatically controlled water temperature
Watching TV on the waterproof shower screen
Ultraviolet lamps in the bathroom to boost your Vitamin D
A fridge which tells you when you’re running out of food
A robotic lawnmower which charges itself

Not just catering to the luxury consumer market, Living Tomorrow say they plan to meet social and environmental needs. Hopefully, these environmentally friendly and safe homes will be with us soon.
