Camping Not Your Idea of a Good Time? Try Glamping Instead!

July 31, 2012 by

You and your significant other agree that you want to get away to spend some quality time together. Check. One of you enjoys camping out in a tent under the stars, while the other prefers to camp somewhere that has a bed with sheets and blankets.

Is there a way you can compromise where both people can enjoy an outdoor experience which doesn’t involve eating beans from a can and dealing with damp sleeping bags? You bet – and it’s called glamping.

Yellowstone Under Canvas offers these large safari tents to guests. Each one is large enough to sleep two adults and two children and comes equipped with a king size bed or two twin beds. Linens, towels, rugs, a chest of drawers, a coat stand, bedside tables, solar lights, and a lantern are also included.

The River Dance Lodge is another resort which offers glamping tents to guests. Each tent comes with a king-sized bed (or two twins), a wood stove, a table and chairs. The deck extends to a back porch which is equipped with an antique claw-foot bathtub. It is heated by a propane heater. This outdoor area also has a small sink and a counter area.

The tents are very comfortable, and you don’t need to deal with packing sleeping bags and other supplies. Picnic tables and BBQ grills are available on the site. A fire ring is nearby, and it’s a perfect spot to spend time under the stars before heading to bed.

Portable toilets are set up close to the glamping tents at the River Dance Lodge site, and a shared bathhouse with a shower and toilet is only 100 yards from the campsite.

If you and your partner are having trouble deciding between traditional camping and going to a hotel for your next holiday, glamping can be a reasonable alternative which is more comfortable than roughing it in the bush and still has some comforts of home.

I guess this is a much preferable way to camp, but I still don’t really get the draw of camping. What do you actually do? Hike in the woods? *shudder* I prefer my vacations to come with plumbing and restaurants.

  2. Love this!! What a way to go camping.. I guess electricity and plumbing are added in? Why not – everything else is!
