Wallpaper is in style again for home design. Manufacturers are offering consumers choices that are big and bold. There is lots of color, too.
Gone are the days when the wallpaper was something that sat in the background of the room because we didn’t want it to be too “busy.”
Now it is much more likely to be a major element in the design – something bold and confident. How can you work with this look and create a great space? If you decide you want to use a wallpaper with a rich, dark background like this one, you allow it to be the star of the room.
If you have decided to use this wallpaper in your bedroom, choose simple bed linens in a tone that complements the colors in the wallpaper.
Your window treatments don’t have to be plain, but they probably shouldn’t have a floral tone. Consider a stripe, check or textured fabric that picks up on the lighter colors in the wallpaper.
Big-patterned wallpaper will work in a living room or dining room as well. To achieve balance, you will want to keep the rest of the room neutral.
You can add texture in your floor covering and window treatment if you like, though. If you already have a lot of “stuff” going on in your wallpaper, you will probably not want to add a heavy-textured carpet or window treatment (or both) in the same room.
You don’t have to keep the rest of the surfaces flat if you decide to go with a bold wallpaper. Balance is the key to making this look work for you.

I’m old enough to remember scary ’70s wallpaper in my parents’ home and I am not that confident about embracing it, but it is a huge trend now and some of the styles are fabulous.
