Neighborhood Spy: Have a Seat

The de Sede DS 600 Modular Sofa

Today’s roundup focuses on the fine art of seating design, from cushy, modern sofas to ultramodern minimalist chairs.

First up, those crazy Swiss designers at de Sede share their DS 600 modular seating system (above), which can be added to and added to until it becomes, as they claim, “the longest sofa in the world.”

Next, Furniture Fashion shares a roundup of ten ottomans so cushy and inventive, you might want to sprawl out on them entirely rather than simply propping up your feet:

Engineering and music come together in the most logical way as David Brothers, assistant professor of interior design at the New Jersey Institute of Technology’s School of Art + Design, shares his design of an ergonomically-correct chair made specifically for musicians:

Elsewhere on the web, Co. Design shares the story of the Borghese sofa by Noe Duchaufour Lawrance, based on the beauty of a park of the same name in Rome

…and last but not least, those interested in upcycling and repurposed materials need look no further than HipCycle for a kind, green place to sit — specifically, on a Boot Jack bench made from the reclaimed wood of old houses. One man’s trash, another’s treasure – there’s a concept worth sitting a spell and thinking about.
