Imagine sitting on soft marshmallows? I’m sure you get the feeling of soft comfort and that is exactly what is delivered through the Marshmallow Sofa. The Marshmallow Sofa is a traditional sofa tastefully transformed by George Nelson into a three dimensional pattern consisting of 18 brightly-colored sections of upholstery, supported by a simple and sturdy steel structure.
The sofa design has an unusual shape and construction which made it into design history’s more unusual sofas. An extension element consisting of six individual cushions can be mounted between two sofas, allowing sofa to be extended as required. The 18 brightly colored cushions come in vinyl red, orange, green, purple and blue with frames of rectangular tubing that is painted black. The sofa was originally designed in 1956 by George Nelson together with Irving Harper, but now the Marshmallow Sofa is a landmark of modern artistry with its whimsical design of “floating” cushions, it is not only surprising in its appearance, but also surprisingly comfortable- just like a marshmallow melting your mouth.
The improvements of the modern version pay tribute to the original improved designs and aeronautical hardware and uses Italian leather, giving the owner impeccable quality and comfort. You can match your existing décor with the various colors available from the sofa and it definitely a refreshing addition to your home.
Furniture designers Irving Harper and George Nelson maximized the space between sofas by taking away the areas that were not usually used and the end result brought mankind the 18 circular cushions on near invisible steel frame, giving the impression of floating sofas. This is a truly playful design that lends adds a dash of color to your living spaces and also provides the eye-catching fun piece that you want. The cushions can be removed for wash and attached easily again.
