When the term ‘row house’ comes to mind, I usually think of urban neighborhoods with tight living quarters, and cookie cutter facades with metal canopies outside. This Row House in Goeblang, Luxembourg is a pleasant surprise with its terraced design and plenty of light pouring in from all sides. Architects Metaform atelier d’architecture used the property site and took advantage of wide-open spaces in this unexpected twist for a row house.

From the exterior, the home has a farmhouse meets modern aesthetic, while inside it is pure minimalist from floor to ceiling. Floating stairs, glass floors, high ceilings and unexpected bursts of color throughout make for an interesting marriage of forms and design treats. The kitchen boasts a bright fuchsia wall, and when paired against the white sleek cabinetry and countertops, this creates a gorgeous flair to what could be a very stark and sterile space.

Throughout the home, floor to ceiling glass creates unexpected views of the wide-open deck and green landscaping around the home. A sense of bringing the outdoors in, and vice versa, is felt throughout the public spaces, and clean-lined furniture and fixtures all work in harmony to create a sense of balance and tranquility.

Combining light, airiness, and modern touches of design to this Row House in Goeblang is a welcomed tone to the traditional. The functionality meeting green vistas in every room is especially a surprise for anyone who walks through the home. It’s nice to see that architecture doesn’t always have to fit into the traditional, and modern design can still feel warm and homey.
