It’s been a fantastic year for new and exciting designs in the field of furniture and seating. We’ve seen many innovative styles and collaborations between companies and creative designers. Here, we take a look back over 2010 and have selected our top ten favorite modern home furniture items.
When selecting our top ten we considered aspects such as design, innovation, fabrics, color use and functionality. We’ve chosen designs which are not only favorites of ours, but the ones which received the most positive feedback from you the readers.

Ameba – unusual modular bookcase
Although it’s called a bookcase, it’s doubtful the Ameba would ever be used for storing books as it’s surfaces are too curved or sloped. Ornaments maybe, but the design is so unusual and so eye catching it looks fantastic just as a stand alone object. Made by Cedri Martini, the combined modules are made from polished or chromed finishing, with adjustable metal elements which can be fixed to achieve any imaginative combination….

R15 – the armchair with features like a sports car
The R15 armchair, by Redo Studio, has all the characteristics of a powerful sports car. The wide proportions, soft inflatable-like deep seat and bulky armrests give this chair a look of precision and finesse.

Gorgeous pink & black furniture by Katz
The colors pink and black compliment each perfectly because they are, in a sense, polar opposites. Black, most would agree, is a masculine shade, whereas pink is the ultimate feminine color. The Boys & Girls Lego table by abgc Architects is a unique and colorful boardroom table with a monolithic slab made up of random, instantly recognizable lego bricks. The total number of Lego bricks is 22,742, clicked together with traditional lego building techniques (ie: no glue used). Exotic and paradoxical, the Bertha chest of drawers by Michel Haillard are a unique baroque style, covered in zebra skin parchment, complete with tail and horns.
