Based in England and France with partner studios in Germany and Sweden, Atelier Areti brings a fresh, no-nonsense approach to its lighting, furniture and accessories. Its product designers, artists and architects work with craftsmen and manufacturers to produce creations like the Alouette collection, a series of five avian-inspired light installations.

The Alouette series ranges from a hanging lamp and wall sconce to a floor lamp and two tabletop lights. In each, a cone of light emerges from the bird’s tail as if it’s launching into flight, leaving a trail of illumination behind it as it lifts off.

Either sitting on a horizontal tube or clamped to a vertical stand, the jointed construction allows the birds room for adjustment and rotation. The halogen bulb within can be dimmed to provide the perfect amount of light.

Rather literal in the avian interpretation but stopping short of kitsch, we predict they’ll still be relevant — and beautiful — generations from now. One could say they not only have wings, so to speak, but legs, too.
