Revive Your Attic from Dead Space into a Bedroom, Office or Playroom

August 7, 2012 by

If you want to make the most of your indoor space, don’t overlook the attic. With a bit of imagination, the uppermost part of your home does not have to be dead space. Liven it up and turn it into an extra bedroom, office, or a playroom.

An attic bedroom can be a light and airy space, as this child’s room demonstrates quite nicely. With plenty of natural light and brightly-colored fabrics, this is a room that a young girl will want to spend time in.

This attic bedroom makes good use of natural light as well. Can you picture stealing away to this cozy nook at the end of the day to unwind and get some well-deserved peace?

This attic office makes good use of available space. There is plenty of storage, and the space is well laid out for one person to use comfortably without feeling constricted. While you may want to use a more up-to-date computer in your home office, this space is one which would work well for a home-based entrepreneur or someone who telecommutes one or more days per week.

Lots of lighting make this playroom a space that children will enjoy spending time in. Paint the walls in bright colors and add details like these interesting hanging chairs, so that children can sit, read, and imagine while they are in the room.

In a large space like this, you can set up different activity centers so that children don’t feel cramped while they are playing, and you should have plenty of space for storing toys and supplies as well.

I love the layouts of these rooms. My only question is about the air temperature of this room. The attic is freezing in the winter and boiling in the summer. To heat or cool costs a bomb. Any suggestions?

I’ve never seen any real attics as nice as these! So inspiring! Would love any of those rooms.

  3. Beautiful — I wonder how much it would cost to renovate an attice into one of these wonderful rooms.
