Maybe it has something to do with contrast, or perhaps it’s just the element of surprise, but there’s a little-known (and little-utilized) fact in the design world: if you want to make your space look more luxurious, do what the Rolling Stones told you: see a door and paint it black.
While venturing into the dark side may not be an option for those renting an apartment or living in a space in which black doors would simply look insane, for those with a predominantly neutral or primary palette, it can dramatically raise the perceived cost of the home.
Gloss is key, as is an even application of paint, so the effect looks professional rather than haphazard. But in the end, if executed correctly, shiny black interior doors can bring the drama in the best way possible and make a home look infinitely more elegant, bold and high-end than ever before.
