Modern downstairs living space with imaginative brickwork

May 12, 2011 by

Leaving the brickwork exposed in a living area isn’t to everybody’s tastes as it’s often thought of giving off a cold and impersonal feel, but done correctly with the right warm tones of bricks the effect can be quite striking.

This imaginative living space is by MCK Architects, a renovated interior which incorporates two styles of exposed brickwork – the living room background brickwork uses larger, lighter toned natural stone bricks, stacked in a random mosaic arrangement, and the large chimney and part of the kitchen and hallway entrance is made up of darker and smaller man made bricks.

The overall effect is a space of natural and neat beauty. Rather than all this brickwork making the home seem industrialized and without character it is quite the opposite, as the homely looking furniture, dark flooring and modern kitchen design give it a contemporary character all of its own.
