“Found Look” Growing Trend for Kitchen Designs

If all the style elements in your kitchen don’t match, or this room doesn’t match the rest of your home, relax. It just means that you are ….right in style.

Whether you planned it or not, having something in your kitchen that is “not like the others” is something that is part of an interesting design trend called the “Found Look.”

When a designer brings in an element that is vintage or rustic that is meant to stand out in some way, it can be called “Found.”

This concept is not referring to the idea of, “Honey, we’ve found that since we bought the house and we have to pay a mortgage and property taxes, we have no money left over to upgrade it. You are going to have to get used to the idea of living with this lovely circa 1953-style kitchen for the foreseeable future.”

To successfully pull off a Found Look for real, do start by finding items that you like and want to bring into your home. As always when you are trying something new, start with making some small changes.

Consider adding some items you can place on a counter top or hang on your wall that could add a different feeling to the room but are not a major investment. If you find you don’t like this look, changing out a few accessories is much easier than disposing of a vintage-look refrigerator or stove.

Is the “Found Look” something new or a name being used to describe something homeowners have been doing for years?

  1. I like the idea of making kitchens look more unique/personal. Kitchens are so cookie cutter these days — with most people striving for the same look, with granite counters, etc. I guess my kitchen has a “found” look, since I don’t have the stainless steel, granite, etc! LOL
