Silhouettes are a fun way to decorate your home for Halloween. This is the time for shadowy images, after all, and Martha Stewart has some great ideas for how to use this technique to add a bit of good-natured frightdom to you Halloween celebrations.
The possibilities for making your own images are only limited by your imagination and your artistic ability, but you may want to start with a simple design for your first few forays into this type of decorating.
A simple combination of a silhouette and a candle can create a focal point for a Halloween party table and put some scary shapes up on the wall. These are made with black cardstock mounted on a piece of 18-gauge wire. Loop the other end around the candle holder and you have a simple and very effective centerpiece.

These mice are made of paper, and we can agree they are the only ones you want to see in your home. Cut out a few and place them in a few strategic locations, like your stairs or entranceway to startle your Halloween party guests. You could also consider using silhouettes of bats or spiders on your walls for a slightly different, but equally creepy, look.

If you have a light-colored staircase and you are up for a more ambitious silhouette project, consider putting up a large one like this to give trick-or-treaters a scare. You will want to make sure to number each section before you put it in place so that the image is complete.

The shadow cut-outs over the candles seems pretty simple. The mice shadows are surprisingly spooky and effective with so many of them. Cool idea.
