Not everyone has the room for a standard bedside table in his or her room. Rather than following a traditional decorating pattern where you “have” to include a bedside table, consider the amount of space you have to work with and get creative about finding a solution that will work in it. You may find that a simpler table or a shelf will work just as well for you.
Maze Interior’s Nite shelf is meant to be installed next to the bed. If you don’t want or need a lot of storage in your night stand, this simple design is worth considering. You will have to get used to the open space beside your bed and no drawers for storage, though.

Designer Ilaria Marelli designed a plexiglass box for use as a bedside table for a modern look. Its sleek appearance leaves very little to the imagination, with the exception of a secret drawer which she describes as a place to “hide our dreams.” Now you know where to look for them if you ever get off track. This option measures 42 cm x 42 cm x 43 cm.

If you want your alternative to a standard bedside table to do multi-tasking, consider this option offered by James McAdam. Not only is it a functioning table, but if you ever feel threatened in the wee hours of the morning, the “Safe Bedside Table” can be transformed into a handy bat and shield. Since we can never be too prepared, this option may be worth considering.
