The home office has become one of the most important rooms in the average home today. With the rise of Internet users, telecommuters and younger children using computers, the home office takes center stage for relaxing and productivity for many.

Creating the perfect home office space can be a challenge and views to the outdoors can create a serene environment for hours of occupancy. If you’re looking for outdoor inspiration for your home office, take a look at the Hackney Shed in north-east Hackney, London, that embraces all that is truly outdoor inspiration.

Created by the design firm Office Sian Architecture & Design, the Hackney Shed replaces an old and run down shed that the clients used to have. It now houses a home office that functions as their working studio.

‘Oak framed full-height doors are completely retractable and allow for a clear view of the garden. A library, situated within the structural members, maximises the usable floor area, and a ‘hidden’ rooflight at the rear of the space playfully frames an unexpected glimpse of the sky.’… Office Sian Architecture & Design.

The sanctuary home office is situated in a garden and was built on a limited budget and timescale. It answered the need for a refuge and productive workspace. The reality of being able to come up with a space that is equally productive and aesthetically pleasing can be the biggest challenge for architects and designers. Office Sian Architecture and Design did a wonderful job of fusing all the components together.

Perfect for stay-at-home workers looking to get some air, this neat one-room concept is a studio that uses a simple framework to maximize the small space available.’… Inhabitant

garden office3The Hackney Shed reminds me of a tree house that every young child would love to escape to. The office sanctuary looks like a home office where most adults wouldn’t mind being “chained to their desk” for the majority of any day. This shed is a delightful home office that truly embraces the outdoors and a client’s need for a functional and productive home office.

  1. The shed looks great! I wonder if the roof closes to protect the books, etc., from the elements.
