If you are looking at your kitchen and wondering how you can manage to improve it, even in a small way, read on! Kitchen remodels are on the rise lately, partially due to homeowners rolling up their sleeves and trying their hand at designing, renovating, and the construction process. It’s no wonder one of Apartment Therapy’s readers decided to take on a kitchen remodel that proved to be beneficial and rewarding from their 1960’s home.
What started off a hand me down gift from the reader’s grandparents turned into a home renovation kitchen project that deserves a second look. The dark and closed in kitchen needed updating of finishes, appliances, and functionality. As you can see from the ‘before’ and ‘during’ pictures, the cabinets were replaced, a functional island was added and sleek appliances were added.
By removing the upper cabinets on the left side of the photo, it opened up space for light, and the addition a gorgeous range hood. The end lower cabinet has functional shelving for display and storage of cookbooks, and arms-reach kitchen gadgets. The laminate counters and old flooring were replaced with modern colored materials that provide warmth to this happy homeowners space.
If you are unsure of where to start for your kitchen renovation, look to this project for inspiration. Your budget doesn’t have to be huge to get a renovated kitchen that shows off the best assets of your home. Consider implementing your remodeling project in stages, and map out an overall plan before you get started. It’s always great to see homeowners excited about their own accomplishments. For these homeowners, their handed down gift will always signify their hard work and determination, and they can still keep a sentimental piece of their grandparents along with it!
