The Sky Blue Kitchen Trend

August 24, 2012 by

Sky blue may not be the color that first comes to mind when you want to create a calming or cheerful kitchen space, but it’s a worthy trend and can be accented in colors you might not expect.

Bright blue in a shade that matches a summer sky will liven up a kitchen, especially when paired with crisp white and cherry red.

You can add serenity to your kitchen by painting the cabinets—not the walls—a soft blue.

You could also go all out and cover the majority of the space that same pale, sweet blue and use color on cushions, bottles, and a backsplash to keep it from being too monochromatic.

Using a few shades of bluish-green and some fantastic lighting can give a kitchen an unexpected elegance.

A pale sky blue paired with charcoal gray, white, and dark wood gives a kitchen a cozy, country feel, perfect for lingering over coffee or meals with the extended family.

A similar color scheme is used here to give the space a light, airy, beachy feel.

Using sky blue in a kitchen can offer the look of a simple, chic country home or a seaside cottage. The differences are created within the lines of the furniture and the tones of the accent colors, wood, cabinets, and so on.

It isn’t as obvious of a choice as red, yellow, or orange for brightening a space, but it can be just as effective.
