The modern family has gotten busier, and in many cases the family home has become smaller, too. The scenario is common in most households around the world, and the family doesn’t gather around the kitchen anymore and smaller kitchens make it a bigger challenge.
Korean designer, Jung Hwajin has created an innovative kitchen solution to help save space and gather the family in one area. It is a modular kitchen that includes all of the furniture, storage and preparation in one modern and sleek design. Take a look at this trendsetting idea.
Circular and curvilinear forms have traditionally been used in design to signify a union or a coming together of ideas, people, etc. Hwajin used the curvilinear form to bring all of the important kitchen and dining functions together in a compact but comfortable modular kitchen concept.
‘I suggest that the kitchen should be changed to a space where family members can see and talk to each other with ease in terms of the concept of sharing the kitchen, by relocating the kitchen furniture.’… Jung Hwajin
The placing of cabinetry and storage in convenient areas and designing the modular kitchen to be versatile is where this modular kitchen can be customized for your home. Depending on the open area and lifestyle your family has, Hwajin’s modular kitchen can move easily into new configurations to entertain guests or share in conversation with the kids as you prepare dinner.
‘The handle of the middle storage space is placed at the bottom, and the handle of the sink with curve line is placed on the right hand sides, so it is possible to store if one pushes it to the left. In case of extension of the table, one can raise the bottom part to top and get it fixed” … Jung Hwajin
Hwajin’s background in industrial design is no surprise as this modular kitchen truly helps the modern family rediscover the joy of cooking in the kitchen without compromising functionality and beautiful design.

looks cool. could i cook in such a kitchen?
i wish id have the open, sunny space for this!
We have an open kitchen design (nice, but not as cool as the one pictured here!) and it really is the hub of the home – I like being able to be busy in the kitchen and look out and see what everyone’s up to!
