Contrasting Cabinets for a Brighter Space

September 9, 2012 by

One way to brighten up a kitchen and add more visual interest is to paint the cabinets in contrasting colors.

Normally, the top cabinets are a lighter shade than the lower cabinets, though in some cases, sections of the cabinets—upper and lower—are painted the same color, standing out against upper and lower cabinets on either side painted a different color.

For those who aren’t comfortable with all of their dishes and other miscellaneous kitchen items on display, this trend is an alternative to open shelving.

Find a middle ground to tie the top and bottom cabinet colors together with a countertop, items you leave on display, or even a curtain for a more cohesive look.
