The fig leaf tree wardrobe

July 20, 2010 by

Perfect for a fairy tale theme bedroom or kids imaginative bedroom design, the Fig Leaf Wardrobe is an enchanting piece of furniture, with fig-leaf encrusted doors which open up to reveal a bronze tree stump and branches stretching out against the background of a silk landscape.

Designed by Tord Boontje, Fig Leaf is the largest project of its kind in history. There are 616 hand-painted enamel leaves, each one painted on both sides. There is a unique method for supporting the leaves – in a manner in which no clamp marks are present. The enamel of the leaves is hand painted by a selection of the UK’s most skilled enamel painters, and they have signed every single leaf on the underside, and number recorded in the archives of the production design of the Fig Leaf wardrobe.

The intricacy and detail of the leaves is something to behold, such care and dedication has gone into their creation, that this unique and precious wardrobe would have to be kept in a place where it could not be easily damaged.
