High-sheen mirror reception desk made from a jet engine

November 26, 2010 by

This high flying reception desk, which can also be a minimalistic office computer desk, is developed by the new GE Advanced Research & Technology Center in Qatar, and the design is by MotoArt.

The GE-747 Cowling Desk is custom built using the nacelle from a CF6-50 engine, which was first used for KLM’s 747 aircraft in 1975, with GE’s high-bypass turbofan engines. The engine was split in two, cowling into equal halves, and doubled up into an impressive 19’ long reception desk.

Built with a bamboo desktop, polished aluminum caps and a high-sheen mirror, which gives it a distinctive futuristic appeal. The exact curvature of the surface gives the desk a cocoon feel, with the workspace neatly wrapped around the person occupying it.
