Say Goodbye to a Boring Workspace with the BaObab Desk by Philippe Starck

January 8, 2013 by

If you’re looking for a way to liven up your workspace at any cost and you have the authority to choose your own desk because your workday hours are spent slaving away over a desk in your own home office, the BaObab design by Philippe Starck will definitely grab your attention.

It is the total opposite of most desk styles you’ll find in stores and an inspiring design, but the only setback could be the price ($5,600.00). The desk is all one piece aside from the top surface of the desk, and the shelves are curved rather than angular.

It offers storage space and a designated spot to pull cables through so your desk can maintain a tidy appearance. The color selection alone makes this a standout piece ready to become the focal point of an office.

This desk was designed by Starck in 2006, inspired by both the shape of the baobab seed and the baobab tree’s use as a traditional meeting place (the hollow trunk of a mature baobab tree can hold several people).

I wonder if you’d bump your knees every time you swiveled in this desk?

Interesting (and brave!) design but I like the inspiration behind it. Don’t know if I could handle it being in my own office, though.
