12 surrealist pieces of furniture

June 16, 2011 by

These twelve wonderful pieces of furniture are the creation of Alain Bélanger, a self-taught furniture designer from Canada and previous winner of The Niche Awards.

Here’s how Alain describes his inspiration and creativity:

I design and build art furniture in limited editions that push the limits of the unconscious, somehow going beyond the sensuality of curves and fluidity of movement. Spontaneous inspiration is the starting point of my creative process which is a constant quest for balance, utility and transcendence.

Each piece has a Dali-esque quality, as though the wood is melting in the sun. it’s almost like viewing standard furniture in a hall of mirrors. The colours are bright and exuberant and because of the unique sway of the curves each piece would look at home in any contemporary living room or bedroom.
