Roughly 50 percent of the American population identify themselves as “morning people,” but for the other half, well… sometimes a little help is necessary to get the day started off right (or, in some cases, started at all).
While alarm clocks are certainly a dime a dozen almost literally these days, a Hong Kong-based company called Edifier has managed to put a new twist on an old classic, with a somehow simultaneously sleek and cute result.
Remember those Mickey Mouse cartoons with the old-fashioned alarm clock with two dome-shaped buzzers on top that would wake up any given character with a loud screech, literally causing itself — and it sleepy-eyed owner — to jump around until it was silenced?
Edifier takes the familiar shape of the classic object and updates it into a clock radio and rotating iPod and iPhone dock with two full-range speakers. Simply enough, it’s called the Tick Tock Dock.
The dock can be hidden in favor of the clock face when not in use, or brought front and center when the smartphone or music player is providing the first sounds of the day.
An FM tuner is also included, as is an auxiliary input for other devices. With a ringing endorsement from WIRED and a capacity for no fewer than five different alarms in any given day, it just might be waking us up each day from now on.

This is a winner. I think I’ll love to buy this alarm clock.
