Lights Out: 4 Unusual Nightstands

Nightstands are sort of the unsung heroes of interior design — particularly when it comes to the bedroom. They’re what allow us to quench that midnight thirst for water, set down our laptop or book before falling asleep, and hit the beloved snooze button in the morning without ever getting out of bed.

These quiet little helpers are often the last purchase we make when redecorating a boudoir, too; sometimes they’re eclipsed from view by a fluffy duvet or the sheer height of a bed, and they’re so small, we rarely give them much consideration.  So, for many, how they look doesn’t really matter.

This is precisely where designers and DIY-ers have the most fun, surprising us all with their inventive take on something seen as banal and plain. An extra curve here or a different line there, and all of a sudden, you’ve got a piece that’s no longer just an oversight.

Today, we’ve rounded up a quartet of quirky nightstands that get the job done with a little flair, whether they’ve been purchased as baskets and fashioned into wall-hanging cubbies or have always been exactly what they are… just a classic piece crafted with some extra personality.

So, here’s to getting a good night’s sleep with a crafty companion by our bedside.

The basket idea is really smart for small spaces and for someone just starting out who can’t afford to fully furnish a bedroom.

I love the design of the fourth, and wooden desk.
