Black and White in a Bedroom? How to Pull Off this Look with Confidence

January 28, 2013 by

If you are interested in keeping your bedroom decorating look simple, consider going for basic black and white.

The tuxedo look is always classic, classy and stylish. You can adopt it without going ultra modern and keep the look fresh without being cold by planning your design carefully.

When you think of “white” for your walls, you don’t necessarily have to limit yourself to a stark white tone. Think off white, cream or a winter white to give your room some warmth.

Go to your local paint store and look at the off-white color chips to see the variety of colors you have to work with. Ask the staff for a suggestion that will take the frost off a can of white paint. They will be glad to help.

The next thing on the list is to consider introducing an accent color into the room. The example in this image is a lovely green, but you can choose any color you like. The print on the wall, the small decorative cushion and the flowers all stick with the same tone.

You will probably want to stick with something rich and jewel-like to make a striking contrast with the black and white theme.

Add interest to the space by making sure you have some interesting textures in the room. This four-poster bed and the bench have plenty of detail to draw the eye, without being overwhelming. The hats add some texture to the room without adding more color. The entire effect is coordinated and understated.

  1. I think a simple horizonal black stripe or two on the wall (behind the bed in the photo) would be fun, too!

So lovely and crisp! As long as the wood furnishings are a dark or a light tone, this would work out great. I would love to switch out the color accent whenever I wanted to just for a bit of variety!
