Beyond Pink and Blue: Alternative Colors for Nursery Walls

January 4, 2013 by

If you are planning to decorate a nursery, don’t think you are stuck with the “standard” pink or blue colors. Many parents-to-be find out their child’s gender in advance, which does make planning easier.

Rather than painting the walls one of the old favorites, why don’t you simply choose a color you happen to like, and bring in pink or blue as an accent tone?

This nursery features various shades of green. You can get this effect with a bit of patience, some painter’s tape, and a few cans of paint in different tones.

The colorful accent wall makes the white crib, dresser, and bookcase really stand out. You can always add in some pink with accent pieces, such as with the mobile in this room.

Can you paint a baby’s room in a sand color? Of course you can! Use this type of neutral color as a backdrop and start adding in accessories to jazz up the room. These whimsical monkey decals are a great place to start.

If you are interested in adding this type of detail to a space, make sure that you choose a brand that is easily removable once you are ready to dispense with the jungle theme.

Another way to add color to the nursery is to choose a bright pattern for the quilt and bumper pads for the crib. Find a color you like from the pattern and use it as your wall color. Your room will be coordinated, but you haven’t had to settle for pale pink or blue.

Love the green color blocks in the first photo – but maybe adding trim molding to the ceiling would make it a little less stark?

I think you really have to know what you’re doing, but if you can pull it off, the color blocking feature wall looks great! The sand color is nice too, the monkeys are cute but that nursery doesn’t look finished yet.
