Organize Your Makeup to Reduce Counter Clutter

February 6, 2013 by

Clutter on the bathroom counter can make it difficult to find what you’re looking for in the morning and get your day off with a feeling of chaos. Makeup tubes could roll around, get knocked over, and get frustrating as you look for the one item you need before you head out the door.

A few containers can make all the difference when you’re organizing your counter or vanity:

This large acrylic container from The Container Store holds lipsticks upright so you can see their names all at once, and it also offers space for foundations, pencils, mascara, and brushes to be displayed so you can quickly locate exactly what you’re looking for.

The silver mesh organizer from Organize.com works the same way for keeping your beauty and personal care items organized and all in view.

The silver tone complements most interiors. It can be left on the counter or tucked away inside of a drawer, depending on the height of the items you place inside. There is a similar option at Target.

The clear three-drawer box from The Container Store will be lovely perched next to a sink or on a vanity, but it won’t leave everything on display quite as well as the other choices. However, it will keep items tucked safely away from dust, dirt, and pets without completely obscuring everything from view.

Because there are several drawers rather than one big bathroom drawer, makeup items used most frequently could be placed in one, extras that you like to use for special occasions could be in another, and then tools like brushes or lash curlers could go in a third.

A small vase or cup filled about halfway with glass beads (available in the floral section of most craft stores) will hold makeup brushes and eyeliners upright so they’re easy to see and select. Just push the handles down into the beads.

If you’re using the three-drawer option, the cup can be set on top, allowing you to store and organize more beauty items without taking up more surface space on your bathroom counter.

  1. I like the clear three-drawer box. I’ve found what also works is using a large cosmetic bag that you can hang from a door. My hanging cosmetic bag has clear pockets that show me what’s in each pocket when it’s hanging in the bathroom.
