A medicine cabinet is a place where you might keep a variety of medicinal and personal care products. It’s probably not the best idea to keep medications in there; some of them need to stored in places where they won’t be exposed to high heat and humidity. (If you have questions about the ones you are taking, check with your pharmacist.)
The Windsor Medicine Cabinet is an example of a traditional style, and it can be surface mounted, as well as semi-recessed or recessed into the wall.
Keep in mind that a medicine cabinet does not have to be placed in your bathroom. You can put one in your bedroom, a hallway, or any other space that makes sense to you where you want some extra storage for small items.

Medicine cabinets used to be in every home. They were so useful!! I should add one back into my bathroom. But I also LOVE the new idea of using one in a hallway entrance — for keys and such! Smart!
