Sometimes the word “beige” is used almost as a synonym for boring (just like vanilla). But is it? Can beige be an exciting color for a home, rather than just a safe, secure neutral that sets a stage for other colors?
Of course it can! Beige can create a soothing, comfortable environment that is anything but boring.
Home Designing features a couple of stunning examples of how beige can be used on more than one surface to create a Zen-like space. The bedroom above from Dotso is a perfect example.
There’s also the one from Attila Design:
The bedroom featured at Legacy Linens incorporates beige on most surfaces, with black and white as accents for a sophisticated, spa-like feel.
Beige as a main color isn’t just reserved for bedrooms, though. It can add class to a vintage bathroom and seamlessly meld a kitchen with a living area while cheerfully reflecting light, as shown on Décor Pad:
If white seems too stark but you have a room that seems dreary, try using beige to brighten it up. When used with other neutral shades, the room will seem cool and calming. Choose a single accent color for contrast if you’d like, and use it for pillows, a rug, or a throw, just to create a focal point without detracting from the effects of all the beige.

I think beige and tan are the ideal neutrals, but for sure they can’t stand alone. Need to be mixed into a color story with brighter hues of green, red, blues, etc.
