Cultured Marble for Your Bathroom: A Tough, Custom-made Alternative to Natural Stone

August 28, 2012 by

Are you looking for a product which will give you the look of natural marble for your bathroom which is low maintenance, stain-resistant, and highly durable? Cultured marble has all of these important features and looks great as well. This product was made for use in bathrooms, and works well in wet areas.

Cultured marble looks similar to the natural stone product but is made from a liquid polymer resin and filler materials, such as crushed marble and other types of natural stone. Colors and particles can be added to create speckles and veining to produce a similar look to natural granite.

This product can be used for vanities, showers, tub surrounds, tiles, and anywhere else you would use marble.

The main benefit to using this material in a bathroom is its waterproof quality. Dyes from soaps, shampoos, and hair products will not stain the cultured marble. It is easy to install, clean and maintain. This product can be made to order, and you can also choose from a number of pre-fabricated pieces as well.

If you like the look of marble but want a lower-maintenance option which is easier on the budget than natural stone, cultured marble is worth considering. It is available in a range of colors and has all the beauty of marble without the high maintenance which goes with it.

Once the cultured marble is installed in the shower, simply squeegee the walls after every shower. Remove any hard water buildup by spraying them with vinegar and allowing it to penetrate for 45-60 minutes before wiping the area with a clean sponge. Rinse with clean water.

Not having marble, I didn’t realize that it was high maintenance. This does sound like a more economical and possibly durable option. Very pretty.
