Sunset Magazine has announced that its 2012 idea house will be the Breezehouse in Healdsburg, CA.
Blu Homes specializes in designing and shipping green homes, and markets to consumers who are looking for a primary residence, cottage, or vacation home. The company has also designed additions to existing homes, including master bedrooms, home offices, media rooms, game rooms, and in-law suites.
This home has the distinction of being a prefab unit which was designed in 3D, manufactured at the Blu Home factory. Instead of a standard wood frame, the company used heavy-gauge steel.
Large hinges allow the home to be folded after it is constructed. Once it is transported to the building lot, the house is unfolded onto the foundation.
The 2012 Idea House has an open and inviting design which includes two bedrooms, a den, and an office (which can also be used as another bedroom), four bathrooms, and a wine cellar.
A separate unit, called a Breezepod, will be set up as a guest home. The design includes an inviting outdoor lounge area and a water feature.
All Blu Homes are designed with maximum energy efficiency in mind. 3D modeling technology is used to make sure the weather patterns of the customer’s building lot are considered in this process.
These homes feature an open layout which makes maximum use of natural light to create an inviting indoor space for residents. Hard floor surfaces are used to protect against molds and allergens which may develop in carpeted surfaces.
