Round and Round: The Pivot Door

With the rise in popularity of small spaces due to conservation efforts and the U.S. economy alike, there exist some architectural elements that, in retrospect, seem downright luxurious even in their brilliant simplicity.

The pivot door is one such element; hinged on a center axis, a window or door slides anywhere from 45 to 360 degrees to allow for a full pass-through.

Although opaque doors most definitely require an abundance of surrounding space in order to effectively pull off their own existence, a glass door from one interior space to another, or acting as an entryway to a patio or backyard, is something to consider when square footage allows.

All the fun of a rotating door without all the infrastructure and materials, this show-stopping architectural choice might only be available to some, but it’s certainly worth more than a passing glance from the rest of us, too.

If nothing else, it’s quite the conversation starter.
