Walking on air with a floating staircase

July 31, 2010 by

These wonderful floating stairs are from inside the BVB House, a wonderful modern interior design photgraphed by OWI (Office for Word and Image).

Of course, the staircase isn’t actually floating, but is suspended by using fixing frames behind the wall to hold each stair in place. There is no bannister, no carpet, just simple white steps which lead upstairs to the next floor.

Creating floating staircases is no easy task. Ensuring they are securely fastened to the wall is the biggest obstacle and should only be undertaken by an experienced tradesman. The effect is well worth the effort though, and makes an ideal compliment to minimalist downstairs rooms.
