Modern Homes Shine Brightly under Innovative Lighting Fixtures

November 13, 2011 by

Truly modern homes are creative, unique and contemporary in all aspects, from the colors and range of materials employed to the decorations on the walls and the lighting fixtures. As a matter of fact, lighting fixtures are pivotal to any successful design. They are functional, as the type and temperature of the light they shine sets the mood in the room they are placed. To boot, a lamp, scone or pendant with a clever design is likely to start many conversations and add personality to your living room, kitchen and bedroom. No matter your style, the contemporary design scene has got plenty of innovative option for home lighting for you to choose from. We showcase the best of the best in what follows.

Ledge Hanging Lamp by Tim Wigmore

In designing the Ledge Lamp, Tim Wigmore wanted to come up with an item that was both original, as well as functional. After intense research and many variants, he came up with a scone that is ideal for small modern homes , as its versatile shape and multiple functions make it unlike any other scone youíve seen before. The lamp can be placed randomly on the wall, or placed in the corner of a room. It can serve as a shelf for lightweight items. In addition, the design is entirely ëgreení and eco-friendly, since the materials that adorn the lamp and create its colorful surfaces are recycled.

Silhouette Floating Lamp by Angela Jansen

Angela Jansenís Floating Lamp seems to defy logic and gravity, but we assure you it is an entirely plausible creation that is already adorning modern homes worldwide. Engineer Ger Jansen created a new technology that allows the top part of the lamp to appear suspended in mid-air, thanks to a complex system of electromagnetic forces at work. In terms of design, the Floating Lamp goes for a modernly classic look, with simple shapes, sleek colors and materials. Itís available in sheer plastic, with a chrome finish or in pitch black. A bit on the pricey side, the lamp costs $1,300, but it is money well spent on updating your interior house design.

Glass Greenhouse Lamp by Kristyna Pojerova

Featured at the Prague Designblok 2011, the Glass Greenhouse Lamp by Kristyna Pojerova is literally a tiny greenhouse, which can adorn interior house design while also providing them with a unique space for growing herbs and flowers. The lampís design features a donut-shaped base with an opening through which one can reach inside to tend for the plants or replace them, when need be. Around the walls of the lamp runs a gutter of sorts, in which seeds can be placed. The way in which the lamp is designed allows for sufficient natural ventilation, while also intelligently employing surplus heating from the light bulb.
