Get Tanked: Aquariums that Work for Apartments and Small Spaces

September 3, 2012 by

If you would like to own a pet but you aren’t interested in dealing with the noise or cleaning up after a furry companion, consider bringing a fish into your home. These aquariums don’t take up a lot of space, which makes them an excellent choice for people living in apartments, condominiums and dorm rooms.

The Bubble Tank fish bowl from Psalt Design is meant to the be focal point in a room. Each one is made from premium glass by a master glassblower. No two bowls are exactly the same for these beautiful, yet practical pieces.

When space on surfaces in your room is at a premium, you need to be creative. Consider a wallquarium, like this one from Seven Seas Aquariums. Your fish bubble can be decorated with plants and gravel in the same manner as any other tank. Use the bubble as a terrarium to make a home for hermit crabs or African dwarf frogs.

This product is available in two sizes (3.6 liter/1 gallon and 6.7 liter/2 gallons). The fish bubble would make a good gift for a child who is interested in looking after fish, since they are very easy to maintain.

If you like the idea of a fish bowl but want something a bit more modern, consider the Fish Hotel. The plastic shell is available in a white or black finish, and the glass bowl is easily removable for cleaning. Stack more than one unit on together to create your own fish condo.

These are all adorable and eye-catching. But I’ve learned the hard way to go with the tank that is the easiest to CLEAN. Fish poop a lot.
