Bar boy

April 1, 2009 by

Designed by Verner Panton in 1963, this ingenious furniture piece mixes functionality with a subtle modern grace. The Bar Boy is a four section portable bar on casters. It can be used as a side table with storage space for bottles, glasses, snacks, magazines and games. One of the key aspects of this design is its mobility. Panton was obsessed with the idea of mobility. This theme served as the undercurrent for many of his creations. The compact cylindrical shape can stow numerous items and can be moved from place to place. It can even be taken on picnics where anything from food and drinks to card games can be transported in it.

The individual segments of the Bar Boy mobile container can be opened from any direction. This is very useful when there are numerous users (such as in picnics). Anybody, from any direction, can open the Bar Boy. The Bar Boy is made from high quality laminated wood with a high-gloss lacquer finish. It looks nice wherever it is placed: as a side table in the living room or dining room or on the picnic mat. The simplicity of the design hides the extremely useful storage capacity of the contraption.
